Great Things To Do... After the Move! | |
| - Use the map that I give you to put a red circle around your school, the local library, Frankies Fun Park, Edventure, Riverbanks Zoo, the State House, the State Museum, and other attractions (I'll give you a list with your map).
- Ask Mom & Dad to visit my website and click on Columbia Attractions - This will give you some other ideas.
- Write down a list of places you'd like to explore and then ask Mom & Dad to help you make a "Places to Explore Timeline".
- Ask Mom or Dad to plan special activities that celebrate your new home and neighborhood. If it's okay with Mom & Dad, I'll take your family picture, put it on a postcard and mail it to your neighbors with your first names and your ages (just the kids - parents never want anyone to know how old they are!)
- Ask Mom or Dad to contact the homeowners association to see if they have a newsletter that includes new residents.
- Write letters to your old friends, and ask Mom or Dad if you can invite new friends to your new house.
- Start doing the activities (sports, clubs, etc.) you enrolled in.
- Take a walk around the neighborhood daily if you can. I know this might be hard for some of you but go ahead and introduce yourself! That person you meet may be your new best friend and may be too shy to introduce himself/herself to you! Even if you don't meet anyone, you'll find out where the kids your age live!
- Most importantly, remember this is all new for you. It takes time to feel "at home" again but you will!
- Call me if you need any help or suggestions!
